A Look Back and a Look Forward
at Flower World!

It is the time of year where we take a moment to reflect on all the wonderful things accomplished over the past twelve months and, more importantly, to anticipate the exciting new adventures to come. In 2025, Flower World will celebrate its 57th year in business and we want to thank each of you for visiting for over half a century.

About five years ago, with our 85th birthdays on the horizon, Marijke and I started preparing Flower World for the next 50 years.  We have begun the process of transferring ownership and operation of Flower World to our most dedicated team members. We also recognized and thanked all our employees, especially the ones who have been a part of our team for more than 20 years, as well as those looking to make Flower World their long-term employment.  In 2024 we created a Board of Directors which is focused on the overall direction and future of the company. We have added talented employees who will take us into innovative new ideas and exciting directions, while continuing to fulfill our company's motto of making Flower World a “World of Flowers, Plants, and a Whole lot more.”  All of this while never losing sight of what we do best… growing beautiful plants!

Some of the ways we are doing “a Whole lot more”:

  • Over 20 years ago, we added The Produce Market across the street from Flower World. During this time, we have been bringing healthy vegetables, tasty fruits, and locally raised meat and eggs, to our customers. Thus, creating a true “Farm-to-Table” experience right here in the Snohomish Valley.

  • Around the time we opened ‘The Produce Market,’ we also began growing citrus on our farm in Belize. Because of a terminal citrus virus that hit Belize, the citrus trees had to be dug up and destroyed. This did not stop our vision. We replaced the citrus groves with 150 acres of Teak and Mahogany trees and created grass pastures to feed the beef herd. Fast forward to now, the trees are being harvested and the cattle are thriving. We have begun using the lumber to handcraft outdoor teak furniture, trellises, and planters that are sold at Flower World today.

  • Two years ago, we brought the "Farm-to-Table" concept to new heights in Belize. We built Maya Heights Village Resort and Restaurant on a mountain 500 feet above the farm. Maya Heights visitors can embark on a three-hour Safari Farm tour where they will learn about the 1,000-acre property that supplies the restaurant with almost everything needed to operate. This includes hydro and solar power entirely generated on the farm. It is a true self-sustaining operation, completely off the grid.

  • At Flower World, we will be expanding our current line-up of educational clinics and workshops. Visit flowerworldusa.com for a complete list.

  • This year we will launch a new residential landscaping, design, and planting assistance program to help our customers. More to come on this new endeavor...Stay Tuned!

  • In keeping with our commitment to the environment, we will continue to recycle the plastic pots returned to us by our customers. This means lower production costs for us and lower plant prices for you…while putting less plastic into the landfills. We will also continue our on-site composting operation that uses local garden waste and manure to produce our own line of bagged soils, amendments, and fertilizers.  These items, available to our customers, will reduce the need for using peat moss thus saving the Canadian wetlands.

  • This summer, we will be opening our beautiful 80-acre Snohomish Valley farm, nursery, and orchards, located on Marsh Road, to visitors. This farm, called Marshland Orchards, features fifteen varieties of apple and six varieties of pear trees. There are pastures providing feed for our sheep flock, pumpkin patches for picking each fall, fields of U-cut Christmas trees, and garden plots for weekend rentals. A Marshland Orchards visit will be an educational and fun experience for family and friends as you explore the permanent living maze and garden play areas.

  • We have challenged our team to go against the grain of rising costs and find ways to make gardening more affordable in 2025.  We will be doing this by reducing the prices of select bedding packs, 4” bedding plants, groundcovers, herbs, vegetables, and more.  Our customers can expect savings of 25%-50% over last year’s prices on these items.

As we consider all of this, we are proud of all we have accomplished and are excited about the new plans we are putting into action. We look forward to sharing an exciting “World of Flowers, Plants, and a Whole lot more” with you in 2025 and for the next 50+ years to come!
